TEARS OF THE DESERT ROSE

Excerpt

…Focusing all his thoughts, he said, "Rose, open your eyes. Look at the purple light. Accept it. Let it fill you."

Her clouded eyes sought his face. "I'm…trying." Lifting one hand, she touched his cheek. "Help me."

"We need closer contact." He bent forward, tenderly gathered her into his arms, and held her tightly to his chest. He cuddled her face between his shoulder and cheek, willing his energy into her body.

Her hands slid around his upper arms and held on. Slowly, the light grew stronger around them, pulsing like the heart of a royal gem. He felt rather than heard a faint psychic whoosh and the purple disappeared, replaced by the white light of protection.

With a sigh, Rose tipped her head back and murmured, "Pain's gone. How did you do that?"

"Haven't you guessed? I have paranormal abilities."

"You're gifted? I never knew." She frowned. "Did you think I wouldn't understand?"

"How many people would? The bottom line is, I had it to use when you needed help."

She smiled. "You're right."

Her eyes glowed with a new light. Silver sparkles gathered in the depths, floated up, and burst against the blue.

Slowly, giving her time to protest, if she wanted to, he lowered his mouth to hers…
